Report: "Increase the temperature, not only in thermometers."
There are half a dozen years, when the writer of these lines prepared for TV Cultura documentary about biodiversity in São Paulo, climate experts at the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Department of the Environment and Green drew attention to the temperature difference observed between both the upper regions (Serra do Mar, Cantareira) and the most industrialized areas and more intense traffic (Bristol, Braz), which could reach 6 degrees Celsius. This meant that had formed heat islands in warmer areas and there were attracted to heavier rains (which would be most beneficial in areas of springs), also a concentration of rainfall occurred in the busiest day during the week (when were more problematic), and less intense on weekends.
After six years, this newspaper published (26/3) research Unesp, Goddard Laboratory (NASA) and other institutions showing that today the temperature difference between areas such as Itaim Paulista and Penha, for example, compared with more wooded areas, as can reach 14 degrees Celsius - because of the scarcity of trees (which influence the temperature and humidity) and excess building area (increasing the heat islands). It is not only our problem. Link: News and Opinion for Environmental Managers
